Navigating freedom of speech on social media

SOCIAL media has changed the way Malaysians express their thoughts, share news, and talk about important issues. Plat-forms like Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok have become popular places for people to speak their minds. But while we have the freedom to share our opinions, there are also rules to follow to keep things safe and respectful.

In Malaysia, freedom of speech is protected under Article 10 of the Federal Constitution. How-ever, this freedom has limits. Laws like the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, the Sedition Act 1948, and the Defamation Act 1957 exist to prevent hate speech, fake news, and content that could harm national security or create racial tension.
