THE requirement for Singapore cars entering Johor to have a valid vehicle entry permit (VEP) will commence in a few weeks’ time.
As a law-abiding visitor, I paid the fee for the VEP two weeks ago on Aug 20 after my application was approved, and I was told that I would receive the RFID sticker within 10 days.
However, as of yesterday, the status on JPJ’s (Road Transport Department) website was “pending for tag processing”.
When I called JPJ, the person who answered (and that was after a 30-minute wait) told me there was a backlog in the processing of the stickers due to the high volume of applications.
This is completely understandable.
Even after the sticker is issued, time will be needed by drivers to get it at Danga Bay or Woodlands, which have limited appointment slots, or for the courier company to deliver it to our Singapore address.
Hence, I would appreciate if JPJ could clarify whether Singaporean drivers whose VEP application has been approved and paid for but have yet to receive, affix and activate it could still drive into Malaysia without running foul of the regulations on and after Oct 1, 2024.
