Partnership between Malaysia and China on show

THE Malaysia-China 50th Anniversary Photo Exhibition at Mid Valley Mall Megamall is warmly welcomed and highly lauded. Organised by Star Media Group and Sin Chew Daily, the exhibition is a testament to the enduring and prosperous impact of the relationship between the two nations over the past 50 years.

The photographs on display, dating back to the 1970s, vividly capture the pleasant and cooperative relationship fostered by the leaders of Malaysia and China. This diplomatic journey, which was initiated by Malaysia’s second prime minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, has been carefully nurtured by his successors, maintaining the strong ties that continue today.

The exhibition highlights a wide array of interactive and exchange programmes spanning various sectors, including economy, education, technology, infrastructure, manufacturing, entrepreneurship, sports, tourism and culture. These initiatives have played a pivotal role in strengthening bilateral relations and fostering mutual growth.

It’s thrilling to witness these historical events and moments captured so poignantly in the photographs. The images not only showcase the faces of our former prime ministers but also the athletes and other groups, reflecting the camaraderie and shared experiences between the two nations.

For me, this exhibition serves as a powerful reminder of China’s rise and the profound influence of one of its most significant leaders, Deng Xiaoping. His economic reforms and opening up of China, initiated in the late 1970s, were instrumental in transforming his country from a planned economy to a more market-oriented one.

The establishment of special economic zones (SEZs) such as Shenzhen attracted foreign investment and spurred rapid industrial growth.

Today, as China emerges as a global powerhouse with a population of 1.4 billion, it offers a vast market with enormous potential.

Our current Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, recently commended the collaboration between Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) and China Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC) for the development of local industry players in the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project.

We eagerly look forward to seeing more proactive and optimistic partnership between Malaysia and China, one that drives mutual growth and strengthens our collaborative efforts.
