Concerns about carbon capture technology

SAHABAT Alam Malaysia (SAM) would like to respond to an article that appeared in The Star on July 15, 2024, entitled “Malaysia is well positioned as a promising regional hub for CCUS”.

Carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) in the past few years especially has been strongly advocated by fossil fuel companies as a “climate solution”. Regrettably, the views expressed in the article did not touch on the poor track record of CCS deployment in the last decades, which tells a story of overpromising, under-delivering, and cost blow-outs as far as climate mitigation is concerned.
