INDONESIA’S Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry recently announced that Malaysia will connect its power grid with Brunei to realise the subregion multilateral power grid interconnection of Brunei-Malaysia-Indonesia-Philippines under the long-anticipated Asean Power Grid scheme.

This new initiative alongside Malaysia’s Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry recent announcement that the ban on renewable energy export will be lifted indicates that Malaysia’s future power system will be increasingly interconnected with other power markets in the region – a step towards the Asean Power Grid’s grand vision of a totally integrated South-East Asian power grid system.
