BY any measure, Koon Yew Yin was one of the quiet giants of Malaysia’s post-independence development. His life story is deeply intertwined with the nation’s growth – from infrastructure and industry to education and philanthropy.

Koon was a co-founder and pioneer behind several of Malaysia’s most important construction and property groups, including IJM Corporation Berhad, Gamuda Berhad, Mudajaya Group and the IGB Group (Ipoh Garden). These companies went on to become major players in highways, rail infrastructure, property development, and large-scale engineering projects. Through these ventures, he helped lay the physical foundations of modern Malaysia.
