Linkages key to protecting biodiversity

REFERRING to the article “(Safe) Animal Crossing: Getting wildlife across (and under) train tracks” (The Star, March 21; online at https://bit.ly/3lAvUXH), Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) and the Transport Ministry are to be congratulated for facilitating the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project’s Wildlife Management Plan through collaboration between the project’s main contractor and the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan).

This may be the first comprehensive wildlife management plan for a linear infrastructure project in Malaysia. Hopefully, the elephants and other large mammals will be able to use these crossings safely.
