Electricity bill hike much too high

THE Small and Medium Enter-prises Association of Malaysia (Samenta) is alarmed by the recent announcement of a hike in electricity tariffs for commercial and industrial users.

The hike, described as a surcharge under the Imbalance Cost Pass-Through mechanism, is going to hamper the recovery of our SMEs. According to numbers from the Energy Commission and Tenaga Nasional Bhd, more than 1.6 million commercial and industrial users will be paying between 11.8% and 18.4% more for electricity from tomorrow onwards.
