Resolve disputes in Myanmar lawfully

WE, individual representatives to the Asean Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), have been closely following events in Myanmar which have led to a declaration of emergency and transfer of power to the military after the general election on Nov 8,2020. We are extremely concerned and urge Myanmar, a member of Asean, to observe and respect the principles enshrined in the Asean Charter and the Asean Human Rights Declaration.

We recall the purposes and principles enshrined in the Asean Charter, including adherence to the rule of law, good governance and the principles of democracy and Constitutional government, as well as the promotion and protection of human rights and respect for fundamental freedoms.
