IT’S National Day!
The nation is filled with the joyous sounds of celebration and the patriotic flying of the Jalur Gemilang (correctly displayed, we hope) as we mark the day on which we officially declared our independence 68 years ago.

It’s a day on which we should remember the remarkable journey our forefathers undertook that adroitly avoided bloodshed while driving hard for the best foundation for a fledgling nation to take its first independent steps – and they did that by presenting the British with a united front among the country’s different races.
It’s also a day on which we should look in wonder at Malaysia’s remarkable achievements in just a little over half a century.
We have transformed from a developing nation into a dynamic player on the world stage, with a thriving economy and a growing influence in Asean and beyond.
Our achievements are not a stroke of luck but the result of the collective will of a people who chose to look past their differences and work towards a common goal.
This spirit of mutual respect and cooperation is the very foundation of our nation’s success, and it is a value we must guard with great resolve.
In an increasingly uncertain world marked by geopolitical tensions and economic turbulence, the challenges ahead are formidable.
Now more than ever, it is crucial for us to preserve the Merdeka spirit.
Our rich tapestry of cultures, languages and beliefs has never been a weakness but rather, our greatest strength and a source of envy for many across the globe.
We cannot afford to let internal divisions weaken our resolve. Our unity is not just a feel-good slogan; it is a practical necessity for navigating the complexities of the modern era, and we must commit to it with unwavering determination.
By recommitting ourselves to the values of mutual respect and understanding, we can build a more resilient society, capable of facing any storm that comes our way.
Let this National Day be a moment for all Malaysians to look inward and embrace the core values that defined us as we strode towards independence back then.
Let us engage in dialogue with empathy, celebrate our diversity with pride, and stand together as one united force.
Only by upholding the spirit of unity can we unlock our full potential and secure a prosperous future for every generation of Malaysians to come.
