A Zimbabwe-Zambia zigzag

Our columnist learns more about Africa and its colonial past as he continues his journey where David Livingstone and Cecil Rhodes once lived.

AFTER a short stop in Nairobi that included the Muthaiga Club (much celebrated in historical fact and fiction), my travels across Africa turned southwest, and the appreciation of nature transitioned from observing animals in their natural habitat to the immense spectacle of the world’s “largest” - according to combined width and height - waterfall, Victoria Falls. A convenient walking trail on the Zimbabwean side enables one to view the waterfall’s fascinatingly named features such as Armchair, Horseshoe and Rainbow Falls and Devil’s Cataract, collectively created by a combination of ancient tectonic activity and comparatively more recent erosion by water.
