LONDON, June 24 (Xinhua) --The record for the hottest ever June day in Britain has been provisionally broken, the BBC reported Wednesday.
Temperatures have risen to over 36 degrees Celsius in parts of England, surpassing Britain's previous June temperature record from 1976, the report said.
Britain's Met Office red weather warning came into effect on Wednesday morning for parts of England and Wales, and will last through to late on Thursday night.
Met Office Chief Forecaster Matthew Lehnert said: "Red warnings are reserved for the most severe events and we're expecting significant impacts from this heatwave, with health issues likely, even beyond those who are more vulnerable to the heat."
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has also issued a series of Heat Health Alerts.
Dr Agostinho Sousa, head of extreme events and health protection at UKHSA, said: "Very hot weather is forecast across large parts of England in the coming days and we are urging health and social care services across the country to ensure they are prepared."
