4 killed, 2 injured in road crash in central Ecuador

QUITO, June 15 (Xinhua) -- At least four people were killed and two others injured in a road crash Monday on a highway in the Ecuadorian province of Bolivar, the ECU 911 integrated security service said.

The accident occurred in the morning when a pickup truck plunged into a ravine on the Guanujo-Echeandia highway. The injured received pre-hospital care at the scene before being transported to a medical facility for further evaluation and treatment.

Images released by authorities showed the vehicle severely damaged, while police were investigating the cause of the accident.

Road accidents are among the leading causes of death in Ecuador, mainly due to speeding and driver error.
