U.S. stocks close mixed


NEW YORK, April 15 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended mixed on Wednesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 72.27 points, or 0.15 percent, to 48,463.72. The S&P 500 added 55.57 points, or 0.80 percent, to 7,022.95. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 376.934 points, or 1.60 percent, to 24,016.017.

Seven of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with materials and industrials leading the laggards by going down 1.30 percent and 1.24 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, technology and consumer discretionary led the gainers by rising 2.08 percent and 1.37 percent, respectively.
