Two arrested over attempted arson attack on synagogue in London

LONDON, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Two people have been arrested in connection with an attempted arson attack on a synagogue in north London, the Metropolitan Police said on Wednesday.

The incident is being treated as an antisemitic hate crime, the police said in a statement.

A 47-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of arson endangering life, the statement said.

The two suspects were seen placing two glass bottles next to the synagogue's windows and throwing a brick at the building on Wednesday morning.

One of the bottles, believed to contain petrol, was smashed by the brick. However, neither bottle was ignited, and the suspects fled the scene.

No damage was caused to the building and no injuries were reported, the statement added.
