Azerbaijan wind power output surges over 50-fold in Q1 2026


BAKU, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Wind farms in Azerbaijan generated 233 million kWh of electricity in the first quarter of 2026, marking a 51.8-fold increase compared to the same period last year, APA news agency reported Wednesday.

Total electricity production across the country reached 6,540.9 million kWh from January to March, down 3 percent year on year, the report said, citing the State Statistical Committee.

Thermal power plants remained the dominant source, producing 5,466.3 million kWh, although output fell 4.3 percent compared with the first quarter of 2025. The remainder came from hydropower and other renewable energy sources.
