ALGIERS, April 15 (Xinhua) -- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has revised its economic growth forecast for Algeria upward to 3.8 percent for 2026, despite a global context weighed down by geopolitical tensions, the official APS news agency reported.
Algeria's economy is expected to maintain its positive momentum, with growth reaching 3.8 percent in 2026, up from the 2.9 percent forecast in October 2025, an upward revision of 0.9 percentage points, according to the IMF's World Economic Outlook report released on Tuesday.
The IMF noted that this performance is all the more noteworthy given the complexity of the current global economic environment, APS reported.
The upward revision for Algeria stands in contrast to the IMF's downgraded global outlook. According to the IMF's report, global growth is now projected to slow to 3.1 percent in 2026, as the Middle East conflict has halted previous momentum.
On April 10, the World Bank raised its forecast for Algeria's economic growth in 2026 to 3.7 percent, 0.2 percentage points above its January projection. Algeria is one of three countries in the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan (MENAAP) region whose growth forecasts have been revised upward, reflecting improved economic prospects.
