THE highly-anticipated East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) is expected to begin operations in January 2027 and there has been a lot of talk about what the fare rates are going to be.
Recently, several posts have gone viral on social media, claiming to highlight the expected fares.
Is it true that the fares for ECRL travel have been set?
VERDICT:

FALSE
In a statement Tuesday (June 16), Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd said that the fare for the ECRL has yet to be officially announced.
A spokesman said that any fare rates that have gone viral on social media are only speculation and do not represent the real rates that would be charged for the services, which begin in January 2027.
"The fare is still being finetuned by all relevant agencies, including the Land Public Transport Agency.
"This is to ensure the fare is affordable, competitive and friendly to users, in line with the goal of providing quality public transportation services to the people," the spokesman said.
"Therefore, the people are advised not to make any assumptions or conclusions based on unverified information," the spokesman added.
The spokesman also said that the official rate would be announced by the Transport Ministry after the assessment and approval process is finalised.
"We appreciate the public's excitement for the ECRL and appeal to all parties to wait for the official announcement through official communication channels
"The rate set will take into account the interests of the people and provide the best value to the user," the spokesman added.
The ECRL line, which spans 665km, will link Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Selangor.
It will shorten travel time and would take about four hours to travel from Kota Bharu to Gombak, compared to seven hours on the highway.
