MALAYSIAN politicians are no strangers to having their names and faces misused online, but when a fake account starts spreading information under a minister's name, the consequences can be far-reaching.

A social media account using the name "Tokmat Hasan" has been flagged as having no connection whatsoever to the Foreign Minister.

Is someone really impersonating Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan on social media?

Mohamad has warned the public about a fake social media account using the name "Tokmat Hasan" that has no connection to him whatsoever, in a statement posted on his personal Facebook page.

"The public is advised to be wary of the existence of a social media account using the name 'Tokmat Hasan' which has been identified as a fake account and has no connection to the actual individual," he said.

He urged the public not to be deceived by any information or content spread through the account, and to always refer to official and verified channels for accurate and trustworthy information.

"Any spread of false information can cause confusion and have a negative impact on the public. Therefore, the cooperation of all parties is crucial in curbing the spread of unverified information," he added.

The public is advised to verify the authenticity of any social media account claiming to represent a public figure by checking for official verification marks and cross-referencing with known official channels before engaging with or sharing any content.
