GOING live on social media is usually the most mundane of activities, a chat with followers from the comfort of your car.

But for one woman in Sungai Petani, her live stream captured something far more dramatic when a group of people pulled up and attacked her without warning.

Was an influencer really attacked while live-streaming in her car in Sungai Petani?

Verdict:

TRUE

A woman was attacked by a group of individuals while conducting a livestream on social media from inside her car in Sungai Petani on Saturday (April 11), with video of the incident going viral on social media.

Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said the incident occurred at around 5.02pm, when the victim was sitting in her car in front of a house in Bandar Laguna Merbok, Sungai Petani.

An MPV carrying four known individuals pulled up, after which the group attacked the victim, striking her face, head and body and causing injuries.

"The suspects then took two mobile phones and smashed them on the road, causing damage," he said when contacted.

He said the motive behind the attack was still under investigation and that two investigation papers had been opened.

Three individuals were detained to assist with investigations, comprising a 30-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, who are being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief causing damage.

The victim herself, a 28-year-old woman, was also detained and is being investigated under Section 448 of the Penal Code for house trespass.

Hanyan said the cause of the incident remained under investigation.
