QuickCheck: Is KTMB's identity being misused to sell merchandise?


TRAINS have a certain charm to them and there are many enthusiasts out there who would go out of their way to collect related merchandise.

Recently, advertisements have turned up offering various types of merchandise and souvenirs with the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) logo as well the brands under it.

Is KTMB's identity being misused to sell merchandise online?

VERDICT:

TRUE

In a post on its official Facebook page, KTMB said it had detected advertisements for the sale of various goods using its logo and that of brands under it.

"Rail Boutique is the sole distributor of goods, including souvenirs, that use the registered logo and trademark of KTMB," it said in the post.

KTMB also said that any party using its logo and trademarks registered under it without official permission can liable for action under Section 54 of the Trademark Act 2019.
