QuickCheck: Was a brawl in Bukit Sentosa linked to a gang clash?

Footage of a fight in a residential area in Bukit Sentosa, Hulu Selangor, recently went viral, with speculation that the altercation involved gang-related activity.

Was the fight actually related to organised crime?

Verdict:

FALSE

Selangor Police Chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar, in a statement on Monday (Feb 23), said the brawl caught on camera was over a personal disagreement and not gang or race-related.

“Police received two separate reports related to the incident. Preliminary investigations found that the incident was motivated by dissatisfaction and a misunderstanding involving two families.

“Acting on information gathered, we arrested six men aged between 18 and 49,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.

“The public is urged to refrain from speculating on the case. The police will take legal action against anyone who engages in activities that threaten public safety and peace,” he added.
