QuickCheck: Did a Singapore car drive the wrong way to elude police at the BSI checkpoint in JB?


A dash cam picture of a Singapore registered vehicles trying to flee two policemen at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (BSI) in Johor Baru. The video of the vehicle coming against traffic was allegedly taken on Jan 10 at about 1.30am at the entry car lane at BSI.

A DASHCAM recording that went viral over the weekend shows a vehicle approaching what appears to be a checkpoint.

Suddenly, another car enters the same lane from the wrong direction and hits the recording vehicle.

Two policemen are seen running towards the second car. One of them hits it with a traffic cone to compel the driver to stop, while the other policeman draws his firearm.

Instead, the driver manoeuvres past the dashcam car and drives off.

It is claimed that the incident occurred at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex in Johor Baru.

Did this happen there as claimed?

VERDICT:

TRUE

A Home Ministry official confirmed the incident when contacted on Monday (Feb 9), and added that it occurred last month.

The video clip, uploaded on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook post on Sunday (Feb 8), has garnered almost 700,000 views since then.

The vehicle involved has a Singapore registration plate, while the time stamp on the video shows the incident took place at around 1.30am on Jan 10.

At the time of writing, it has not been ascertained why the second policeman did not shoot at the fleeing vehicle's tyre.

It has also not been determined why the suspect was trying to flee, or if they have been apprehended, as police have yet to issue an official statement.
