A SOCIAL media post claiming that a woman had lost her life savings has been making the rounds online, causing alarm amongst depositors.
The viral post alleged that RM30,000 had mysteriously disappeared from the woman's Tabung Haji account, raising concerns about the security of funds held by the pilgrimage fund institution.
Did this woman actually lose RM30,000 from her Tabung Haji account?
Verdict:
FALSE
A social media post regarding a woman losing RM30,000 in savings from her Tabung Haji account is not true.
Instead, the money that was claimed to be missing had actually been transferred into the depositor's own bank account and the incident occurred in March 2024.
On March 9, 2024, Tabung Haji management met with the depositor in Kuching, Sarawak, and she expressed regret and apologised.
Tabung Haji emphasised that depositors' savings are 100% guaranteed by the government in line with the Tabung Haji Act 1995.
"Therefore, the public is advised not to be deceived and to be careful with the spread of false news," it said.
The clarification came after the post began circulating widely on social media platforms, causing unnecessary worry amongst Tabung Haji depositors.
