Was a cat caught 'robbing' a bank in Turkiye?
Verdict:
TRUE
A hilarious incident occurred in Turkiye when police attempting to catch a robber at a bank branch in Kusadasi, Aydin on Nov 24 were left disappointed after they discovered the real "suspect" was just a lost cat, not the criminal they expected.
The incident took place when the bank was closed, and the cat is believed to have wandered inside before trying to find its way out.
Its movements were then detected by a passive infrared (PIR) motion detection system, which read the animal's movements as human activity and subsequently triggered the security alarm automatically.
The local police chief confirmed that no criminal elements or damage occurred, and the animal was removed from the location without any problems.
Following the incident, the bank informed that security protocols would be reviewed to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
Video footage of the incident, which went viral from Nov 25 onwards, also amused social media users who dubbed it the "Kitty Heist" as a joke about the most harmless "robbery attempt" ever recorded.
According to security experts, the incident proves that whilst modern security systems are highly sensitive, sometimes alarms that are considered serious can originate from something unexpected, such as a lost cat.
The feline's innocent adventure turned into an internet sensation, with viewers praising the cat's stealth skills and joking about it casing the joint for a future heist.
The bank has since assured customers that despite this furry false alarm, their security measures remain robust and effective against actual threats.
No charges were filed against the four-legged intruder, who was released without bail.
