SHAH ALAM: An Indonesian man was detained for allegedly attempting to break into a house in Jalan Kebun, Section 30 here.
Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the incident, which went viral on social media, prompted swift police response.
A member of the public alerted the Shah Alam district police headquarters at about 6.32am on Monday (Oct 13).
"A Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) unit was immediately dispatched to the scene to verify the information," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 14).
"Upon arrival, the patrol officers met with local residents, who handed over a man they had detained after he was believed to have tried to break into a house in the area," he added.
Initial investigations revealed that the 38-year-old Indonesian national, who is unemployed, was attempting to enter the home by climbing onto the roof, he said.
"However, the homeowner heard movement above and became suspicious.
"The homeowner then sought help from neighbours, who managed to apprehend the suspect as he attempted to flee," he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass.
This carries a penalty of up to six months’ imprisonment or a fine, if convicted, Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal said.
"We urge those with additional information about the incident to contact Investigating Officer Sjn Aznor Zainal at 017-398 9155," he said.
