A brawl broke out among patrons at an entertainment centre in Johor Baru during a police raid on Sunday, Sept 14.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the incident took place when a team from Bukit Aman’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Department conducted a raid at the premises in the city centre.

"Initial investigations revealed that the commotion occurred between several individuals while police were conducting checks inside the outlet," said Asst Comm Raub.

He said the incident was sparked by a misunderstanding among the individuals.

Police are still in the process of identifying and arresting those involved in the incident.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting, which carries a jail term of up to two years, a fine or both if convicted.

"Police take any form of fighting or behaviour that causes injuries in public places seriously, especially those that disrupt public order and tarnish the image of safety," said Asst Comm Raub.

He also advised the public not to spread unverified videos or information related to the case.

"We urge members of the public to cooperate with the police by coming forward with any information that could assist in the investigation," said Asst Comm Raub.
