MICROMOBILITY encompasses a variety of small, lightweight vehicles often used for short-distance urban travel.
These vehicles can be human, electric, or combustion-powered. However, one thing they all have in common in Malaysia is that they are not allowed to be driven on public roads.
Recently, a viral video showing a family riding a micromobility vehicle on a public road in Johor made its rounds on social media.
Did the incident really happen?

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh confirmed that the incident happened.
“Investigations revealed that a 30-year-old man, accompanied by a woman and a child, was riding the vehicle along Jalan Uda Utama in Bandar Uda Utama at about 3pm on Aug 15.
“The matter is being probed under Rule 3(1) of the Road Traffic Rules (Prohibition of the Use of Certain Micromobility Vehicles) 2021,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Sept 2).
ACP Balveer also reminded the public to always adhere to road laws and regulations.
“Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact investigating officer Inspector Muhammad Hafiz Aminuddin at 011-3580781,” he added.
