Did a man really make off with a gold bracelet from a Selangor jeweller?

A man pretended to want to buy a gold bracelet as a gift for his wife before fleeing with the jewellery from a gold shop in Prima Sri Gombak last Thursday.

In the incident which occurred around 5.50pm, the suspect entered the premises and posed as a customer before taking the opportunity to flee with the gold bracelet shown by the salesperson.

Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said they received a report about the incident around 8.49pm from a 27-year-old female salesperson.

"The complainant stated that while she was working at the gold shop, a local man came in and said he wanted to buy a gold chain for his wife.

The suspect then chose a gold bracelet and, when the complainant turned to get a calculator, the man immediately fled with the jewellery," he said in a statement last Saturday (Aug 2).

He said the suspect escaped on a motorcycle.

"Efforts to trace the suspect are actively underway, and the case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code.

The public who witnessed the incident or have information are urged to come forward to assist in the investigation by contacting Assistant Criminal Investigation Officer, Sjn Zirwatul Huda Radzi, at 014-3336173 or the Gombak IPD Operations Room at 03-61262222," he said.

Earlier, a video went viral showing a man fleeing with jewellery in an incident at a gold shop.

The footage, believed to be from a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera, initially shows the individual examining the jewellery.

The individual is then seen fleeing with the jewellery on a motorcycle.
