QuickCheck: Are claims of a ‘new, faster’ way to get a driving license legit?

FOR some, getting a driver's license is a necessity, while for others, it is a rite of passage. It can also be a hassle due to the numerous processes and procedures.

Recently, a TikTok user posted a video claiming to offer a new and faster way to obtain a driver's license that circumvents much of the red tape others have had to go through in the past.

Is the claim legitimate?

Verdict:

FALSE

The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) says that the content of the video is considered illegal because it offers services to obtain licences without following the proper legal process and procedures.

“We would like to clarify that the individual involved has never been given authority, approval, or recognition by the department in any official matter,” said the department in a Facebook post on July 29.

It also warned the public not to be deceived by any offer that promises a shortcut, cheap or easy way to obtain a driving license.

“Any official complaint can be channelled to the JPJ through the JPJ Official Complaints Portal - https://jpj.spab.gov.my/” it said in the post, adding that legal action would be taken against any party who tries to deceive the community for personal gain.
