VERDICT:

TRUE

A male driver escaped unhurt after his car rammed into the road dividers at KM4 of the Pasir Gudang Highway.

Johor Baru OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh said the incident happened at the stretch towards Perling at 12.22 on Wednesday (July 23).

He said police received a report on the incident from a 21-year-old man who was the driver of the ill-fated car on July 23 at 8.58pm.

"The video of the incident showing the car and another car with a female driver at the wheel overtaking each other went viral," ACP Balveer said in a statement.

He said the account holder of the Community Road Johor – CRJ Facebook page, uploaded the 60-second video.

"Our investigation found the male driver had overtaken the 24-year-old female driver on the right lane," said ACP Balveer.

He said this prompted the other driver to overtake the male driver from the left lane and immediately enter the right lane with the Proton Wira 1.3GL behind her.

ACP Balveer said the male driver then hit the rear part of the right side of the woman’s car, adding the male driver failed to apply his brakes.

He added that this then caused him to hit the road dividers.

"Both drivers tested negative for drugs and driving while intoxicated," he said, adding the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

ACP Balveer called upon those who have information on the case to contact the investigating officer Insp Ong Jing Siong at 011-16490168.
