Police have confirmed that they have arrested a foreigner who tried to escape arrest after crashing into a restaurant and several vehicles while under the influence of alcohol.
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the suspect, a 45-year-old Pakistani, was arrested at about 6.30pm on Saturday (July 19) after jumping off a 2m structure while trying to avoid arrest.
“The suspect’s car crashed into a restaurant at Jalan Riang Utama. He then reversed the car and hit a few motorcycles that were parked outside the restaurant.
“Panicking, he then drove forward and hit a car that was parked at the side of the road before fleeing the scene.
“Some members of the public at the site attempted to stop the suspect but failed,” he said in a statement on Sunday (July 20).
ACP Raub said a team of police officers dispatched to the scene later spotted the man on the Pasir Gudang Highway, heading towards Perling.
“The police instructed him to stop, but he ignored the order. The man later stopped at the side of the road, got out of the vehicle, and ran across the road.
“He then climbed the divider along the highway and jumped from a 2m-high structure before finally being arrested,” he said.
ACP Raub said the suspect, who was injured and in a weakened state, was sent to the hospital for treatment and to have a blood sample taken for further action.
“Checks found that he had no criminal record, and no missing vehicle reports were linked to the car he was driving,” he said.
