Verdict:

TRUE
Police arrested 18 individuals, aged between 17 and 48, following the incident on Friday (July 4) at a SJKC school hall in Pekan Nanas, Pontian, around 11.30pm.
Pontian OCPD Superintendent Mohammad Shofee Tayib said, "A team from the criminal investigation department rushed to the scene and found that the commotion was likely triggered by dissatisfaction over items offered at the auction, which was organised by a temple.
All proceeds from the sold items were said to be donated to the temple and were not channelled to any groups.”
He noted that the detained individuals have been remanded until July 9 to help with ongoing investigations.
“A case file has been opened under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons,” said Superintendent Mohammad Shofee.
He added that the case is also being probed under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief.
“Police would not compromise with any criminal acts,” he stressed, advising the public not to circulate unverified videos or details of the altercation.
He urged anyone with information related to the incident to call the Pontian district police headquarters hotline at 07-686 9999.
