QuickCheck: Did a car crash into a fast-food restaurant in Perak?


A VIRAL video shows the aftermath of an accident with a sports utility vehicle (SUV) in the lobby of a fast-food restaurant.

A voice is heard off-camera describing the events that led to the accident as passers-by are seen entering the premises to help.

It is said that the incident occurred on Thursday (May 8) night in Sitiawan, Perak.

Did this happen as claimed?

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the incident occurred in Sitiawan at 9.10pm on Thursday.

Bernama quoted him as saying that a woman in her 70s was trapped under the vehicle but rescued by passers-by.

"Our operations commander instructed personnel to assist Health Ministry staff in providing first aid before handing over the victim for further action.

"The situation was brought under control at 9.30pm and the operation ended at 9.49pm," he said in a statement on Friday (May 9).

However, it was reported later that the woman succumbed to her injuries while being treated in hospital. Several other people were also hurt in the incident.

Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Hasbullah Abdul Rahman said the 29-year-old driver of the SUV also sustained injuries and had been detained to help with the investigation.
