QuickCheck: Are the Sabah Governor's birthday celebrations taking place over three months?

BIRTHDAYS are always an occasion to celebrate.

While some birthday celebrations last longer than most, is it true that the official celebrations for Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Musa Aman's birthday will take place over three months?

VERDICT:

FALSE

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam clarified that the celebration will only take place in the month of June 2025 and not over three months.

He said based on the Sabah Cabinet's decision, official programmes for Musa's birthday celebration this year will be held on June 21.

"Seven key events will be held in June. The celebration will not last for three months," he said in a statement on Thursday (March 27).

He also said the number of events were reduced to seven this year, down from 12 in 2024 and that the budget had been cut by 30%.

"All seven events are those traditionally held in conjunction with the Governor's official birthday," Dr Gunsalam said, assuring that the scaled-down events will not affect the significance of the celebration.

He urged the public to rely on official announcements to avoid being misinformed.

However, the birthday celebration for the Sabah Governor will be on March 30, in line with Musa's actual birthday, according to the Sabah Government Gazette.

Previously, the Sabah Governor's birthday was celebrated annually in October.
