QuickCheck: Can a laughing emoji on a govt social media post land you in legal trouble?

LAUGHTER, as they say, is the best medicine. And time heals all wounds. Not to mention, ignorance is bliss. But sometimes, laughter can cause one to be thrown in jail to do hard time and no amount of pleading ignorance will bring about any relief.

At least that's what is being claimed by a viral post on social media. The post claims that posting a laughing emoji on a govt social media post would supposedly lead to legal action for cyberbullying charges. Is this true?

VERDICT:

FALSE

According to MyCheck Malaysia, the viral post was actually satirical in nature and not true.

"The post is meant as satire and uses the term 'troll' in the post," said MyCheck.
