QuickCheck: Did a fire at a firecracker stall destroy two vehicles in Johor Baru?

FIREWORKS are meant to light up the sky in a blaze of colour, not take out everything around them on the ground.

A 44-second video of a dramatic blaze at a firecracker stall in Johor Baru went viral on social media, showing the pop-up tent engulfed in flames.

But did the fire really destroy two vehicles alongside the stall?

Verdict:

TRUE

A firecracker and fireworks stall was destroyed in a fire in Johor Baru on Monday (March 23) night, with the blaze also writing off two vehicles in the process.

A 44-second video of the incident went viral on social media before authorities confirmed the details.

Larkin Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Senior Fire Officer I Nakish Nekmat said 11 personnel were dispatched to the scene at Majidee Corner 1C, Jalan Bunga Ros, Kampung Dato Sulaiman Menteri, after an emergency call was received at 8.32pm.

"The pop-up tent used for selling the firecrackers and fireworks was razed by the fire," he said in a statement.

He said the blaze also involved two vehicles, a car and a food truck, both of which were totalled by the fire.

The fire was brought under control at 8.42pm, with mop-up operations ongoing thereafter.

No casualties were reported in the incident.
