QuickCheck: Is the viral copy of the new birth certificate legit?

IT'S NOT unusual for official documents to become the talk of social media, but not all of them are genuine.

Recently, a birth certificate allegedly from Malaysia has caught the internet's attention.

Could this viral copy really be the official document issued by the authorities?

Verdict:

FALSE

In a post uploaded on its Facebook account, the National Registration Department (NRD) has said that the certificate being circulated is fake.

It has been altered and is not an official certificate issued by NRD.

The identification number displayed on the document does not exist in the NRD's system.

The citizenship certificate issued by the NRD contains several security features, including a serial number, hologram sticker, security thread, and barcode.

Applications for citizenship under Article 15A of the Federal Constitution are for those under 21 years old in special circumstances to register as a Malaysian citizen.
