TRUE

Residents and visitors around Teluk Batik Beach have been urged to be cautious following the sighting of a crocodile in the waters on Thursday (Dec 12).

Information about the reptile's presence was received by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) beach lifeguard tower at 1.09pm.

Norazlan Turiman, the District Civil Defence Officer in Manjung, stated that four beach rescue personnel were dispatched for patrolling and monitoring.

"Around 2.24pm, the patrol team received information from a video recording showing the crocodile near the jetty owned by Vale Mineral (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd at Teluk Rubiah," he said when contacted by Sinar Harian.

An inspection confirmed that the reptile was roaming in the area.

Meanwhile, Yusoff Shariff, the Director of the Perak Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan), mentioned that the crocodile has not yet been captured as of the ongoing operation.

"Perhilitan received information about the case around 5pm today. For now, we are conducting monitoring, and no capture has been made," he said.

The crocodile's presence was caught on video, which quickly went viral on social media.

Netizens noted that spotting a crocodile in these waters is not new, as a similar sighting occurred in 2017 at Teluk Rubiah, approximately 2 kilometres from the public beach resort of Teluk Batik.
