QuickCheck: Did a large group of motorcyclists ride against Penang traffic to flee cops?


IT is only natural for a person to fear the long arm of the law when they know that they've done something wrong, and as such it is very likely they would flee if they have to go up against the police.

Recently, videos of a large group of motorcyclists riding against the flow of traffic went viral and it is said that this happened in Penang when they tried to flee from a police roadblock.

In these clips, the motorcyclists can be seen blaring their horns at traffic as they swerved past oncoming cars.

Is it true that this incident happened in Penang?

In a statement North Seberang Prai OCPD ACP Anuar Abdul Rahman confirmed that what was seen in the video really happened, adding that the incident took place when the police were conducting Ops Samseng Jalanan at about 7pm on Sunday (Aug 4).

He added that the operation took place along the Butterworth Outer Ring Road.

"The motorcyclists resorted to fleeing the scene by riding against traffic. 25 motorcycles were seized for various offences while a motorcyclist was arrested under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for riding recklessly and dangerously," added ACP Anuar.
