VERDICT:

TRUE

Sarawak Civil Defence confirmed that the carcass of a dead whale had been found at the Telok Melano beach near Kuching.

In a post on its official Facebook page, it said that a Civil Defence coastal rescue team had discovered the carcass at 12.03pm on Friday (April 5).

"The whale's carcass was found by the personnel on duty while they were carrying out coastal patrols in the area," it said in the post.

Coastal rescue team member Zulfika Atan told Sarawak-owned broadcaster TVS that they were on a routine patrol when they found the whale's carcass.

"We reported the find to the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), which will study the carcass and provide more details at a later date." TVS reported Zulfika as saying.

She also said that this was not the first time such an incident had been reported.
