QuickCheck: Were two students beaten by weapon-wielding men outside a Kajang school?

WHILE cat videos and sour dough baking guides might be most people's preferred content on social media, sometimes truly nasty videos do go viral.

Recently, a video of two teens being beaten up by a group of men wielding PVC pipes went viral on Facebook and allegedly it happened in Kajang.

Is this true?

Verdict:

TRUE

The Criminal Investigation Division at the Kajang District Police Headquarters first caught wind of the fight on March 14 after a police report was filed, said Kajang ACP Mohd Zaid Hassan.

"During the incident, two high school students were attacked by about 10 people in front of one of the schools in the Sg Long Kajang area," said ACP Mohd Zaid in a statement on Tuesday (March 19).

"The men used PVC pipes and iron rods to injure the victims before fleeing in two different vehicles.

"The victims received injuries to the head and body and are being treated at Kajang Hospital," he said.

ACP Mohd Zaid said that so far police had apprehended four suspects believed to have been involved in the case, aged 18 to 21.

"The four suspects were arrested around the Ampang area on March 18 and are currently being remanded until March 22 to assist the police investigation," he said, adding that police were in the midst of tracking down the remaining suspects and that so far the motive of the incident was unclear.

ACP Mohd Zaid said that the case was investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code and if found guilty can be punished with imprisonment for a term which can be up to five years or a fine or with both.

"For anyone who has information regarding the incident, can contact any nearby station or directly contact the investigating officer of the case, Insp Mu'az Mazlan at 017-978 8804," he said.

Previously, a 16-second video of the incident had gone viral on social media.
