Verdict:

TRUE

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Hamsa Isnurdini said two victims - a man (whose name wasn’t available at press time) and a woman, Junaidah Tarasan, 29, got seriously hurt after the “Octopus” ride they were on detached from the main machine on Wednesday (March 6).

The Octopus ride consists of small chairs attached to the extended arms from a spinning centre.

Hamsa said they received a call about the incident at Likas at around 9pm.

“The woman was injured in her head while the man is more serious,” he said in a statement.

Both victims were taken to the hospital where the man is still being treated at the critical zone.

Investigations are ongoing.

Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Zaidi Abdullah said the Sabah Police Commissioner has ordered the fun fair operator to cease operations for safety inspections on all its machines.

"Once all safety measures are in place and all machines are found to be in sound conditions, they can reopen," he said.
