QuickCheck: Did a lorry skid and crash into parked cars in Puchong?

MULTIPLE videos and photos have gone viral showing a lorry skidding and crashing into two parked cars with one of the cars flipping over and ending up underneath the lorry. It was said that this happened in Puchong, Selangor.

Is this true?

Sinar Harian reported that the incident occured when a sudden crossing by a car at a traffic light intersection caused the lorry to skid and crash into two parked cars.

The accident took place at the side of the road on Jalan Lebuh Puteri, Bandar Puteri in Puchong on Tuesday (Aug 8).

The daily was told by Serdang district police chief Asst Comm AA Anbalagan that a report on the incident was received at about 11.40am.

"Initial investigations found that the incident happened at the traffic light intersection on Jalan Lebuh Puteri as a man was driving an Inokom-type lorry from the direction of Lebuh Puteri (IOI Gallery) towards KPMC Puchong.

"The lorry hit a car which is believed to have suddenly left the junction, causing it to swerve to the left side of the road before hitting two other cars parked nearby," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 9).

Fortunately, he added, neither the drivers of the vehicles involved nor any pedestrians were injured.

The matter is being investigated under Rule 17 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959, he said, while urging anyone with information on the incident to contact Investigating Officer Sjn Mohd Remy Nordin at 019-528 2256.
