QuickCheck: Is fake news circulating about urgent donations for a Kedah hospital operation?

Many unscrupulous individuals prey on others, which is evident through rampant scams and bogus money-making schemes.

They take advantage of the caring attitude of Malaysians, who are usually benevolent and extend help to people, especially those in need of medical treatment.

As such, a woman claimed on social media that her son was admitted to the intensive care of Hospital Sik and was in need of RM80,000 for the son's bone surgery.

She claimed on social media that her 17-year-old son had to undergo the risky surgery, which involved medical specialists from overseas, and pleaded for donations. Is the claim true?

Verdict:

FALSE

Hospital Sik denied the claim that such a patient was admitted and seeking treatment there.

"The public is urged to be careful and not to easily fall for such false information and not to viral them to others," the hospital said on Facebook.
