QuickCheck: Did a man try to rob a bank in Perak with a toy gun?

IT WAS widely circulated that a 32-year-old man was arrested after allegedly trying to rob a goldsmith shop with a toy gun. Is this true?

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan confirmed that the man was arrested at about 2.30pm on Dec 6 with the help of the public as well as policemen from the Pekan Baru station.

"During the arrest, we also seized the plastic toy pistol in the suspect's sling bag," he said.

ACP Yahaya said the suspect, from Seremban, went into the shop on Jalan Sultan Iskandar at about 2pm on the pretext of wanting to buy a gold chain.

After seeing the chain, the suspect grabbed and aimed his toy gun at the shop employee before running out of the shop.

The case was resolved within 30 minutes.
