QuickCheck: Are face masks no longer compulsory?

ON Wednesday (April 27), Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin held a press conference to share with the nation the latest standard operating procedures (SOP) for the Covid-19 pandemic.

During the press conference, did Khairy say that wearing face masks is no longer compulsory?

While it is true that it is no longer compulsory to wear face masks outdoors, you still have to wear face masks if you are indoors in a public space such as an office, shopping centre or while on public transport.

Face masks are also optional indoors if you are exercising alone, giving a speech or performing on stage.

However, the Health Ministry still encourages the use of face masks outdoors if you are in a crowded place such as at a pasar malam or Ramadan bazaar.

It is also highly recommended that at-risk individuals should carry on wearing face masks, both indoors and outdoors.
