QuickCheck: Did a German institute report that 96% of Omicron cases were fully vaccinated?

SOME on social media have been reporting that the Robert Korch Insitute (RKI) had reported that 96% of Omicron cases in Germany are among the fully vaccinated.

Is this true?

Verdict:

FALSE

These claims are partly due to a mistake that in an RKI report that has since been corrected.

The RKI is a German federal government agency and research institute that is responsible for disease control and prevention.

According to Reuter, RKI spokesperson Ronja Wenchel stated in an email that, "RKI did not report such a number, only a synopsis about the number of Omicron cases vaccinated and unvaccinated so far.

"The number of 186 unvaccinated patients in the report from Dec 30, 2021 was wrong, the correct number is 1,097," Wenchel said.

The report, which is listed in the references below, has since been updated to show the correct number.
