PORT DICKSON: Police have denied talk that a 40-year-old man absconded after having tested positive for the coronavirus (Covid-19) at the district hospital here.
Port Dickson OCPD Supt Aidi Sham Mohamed said the man and another 44-year-old individual went to the hospital yesterday (March 16) to be tested but left before they were attended to.
"Checks revealed that both the individuals returned to the hospital later to be tested.
"The younger man came first followed by the older one, so there is no truth to rumors that one ran away after testing positive for Covid-19," he said.
A message went viral yesterday claiming that the duo had tested positive for the virus.
It said the older individual was immediately taken to the isolation ward but the younger man ran off before he could be admitted.
Supt Aidi Sham said the hospital had yet to release the results of their tests.
He said police were also probing if the two had attended a tabligh rally at the Seri
Petaling mosque on Feb 28 attended by some 14,500 people.
He also advised the people not to viral any unsubstantiated claims as it would create
unnecessary panic in the community.
"We will take action against anyone who spread such fake news especially if it was related to Covid-19," he said.
