BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Xinhua): Brunei officially received medical donations from the People's Liberation Army of China on Thursday (May 14), aiming to enhance bilateral cooperation in fighting the Covid-19 outbreak.

Awang Halbi, Brunei's Second Minister of Defence and Yu Hong, the Chinese Ambassador to Brunei, attended a handover ceremony of the anti-Covid-19 medical supply donations from the Chinese military at Brunei's Ministry of Defence. Major General Seri Aminan, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Force and Senior Colonel Li Jianzhong, the defence attache of the Chinese Embassy to Brunei also attended the ceremony.

This batch of anti-Covid-19 medical supplies, including medical masks, goggles, protective clothing, waterproof isolation suits, etc., arrived in Brunei on Tuesday night by a Chinese Air Force transport aircraft.

Chinese Ambassador Yu Hong said that China and Brunei are friendly neighbors and Strategic Cooperative Partners. Brunei gave China valuable support when China was at the most difficult moment of epidemic prevention.

After the outbreak of the Covid-19 in Brunei, the Chinese central government, the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region government and the Nanjing municipal government have donated anti-Covid-19 medical supplies to the Brunei government.

The ambassador said that the Chinese Embassy to Brunei has also contributed to the Brunei Covid-19 Relief Fund. More than 12 Chinese companies and China-Brunei joint ventures including Zhejiang Hengyi Group, Bank of China Brunei Branch, donated medical supplies and funds to Brunei.

Li Jianzhong said that the Chinese People's Liberation Army has been fully participating in the domestic fight against the Covid-19 while actively carrying out international anti-Covid-19 cooperation by providing supplies and sharing experiences to contain the Covid-19 with multinational troops.

"I hope that this batch of anti-Covid-19 medical supplies provided to the Brunei army will help them fight the epidemic," he added.

For his part, Awang Halbi said that Brunei appreciates the urgently needed medical supplies provided by the Chinese military.

He said that China has been providing assistance to and sharing experience with many countries including Brunei to fight the Covid-19 even before China's domestic epidemic situation is completely over, which fully reflects the concept of a community with shared future for mankind advocated by China.

The assistance provided by China will help Brunei contain the spread of the COVID-19 and will surely further promote the friendly relations between the two armies and the two countries, he added. - Xinhua
